Woodworking can be relaxing and fun for folks of all ages. Contrary to popular opinion (formed after watching "the New Yankee Workshop") this great American passtime isn't reserved for middle-aged white men with lots of spare cash! Dive in and enjoy it!

I am into woodworking and I don’t know where to get hardwood for projects at a reasonable price?

So I end up going to Home Depot for my projects. The prices are fairly reasonable but don’t have much of a variety of hard woods for my projects. I’ve tried other places including Rocklers but they are too expensive too. Are there any warehouses I could go to in the Peoria, Glendale, Pheonix area which have reasonable prices? Thanks for all responses

One source of hardwood, if you don’t mind a bit of work, is old pallets. Many of these are made of maple or oak. If you can find some that are imported from Asia, many of those are made from Mahogany, which is a common wood over there. I’ve found Walnut and even Bloodwood in some pallets. You’ll have to resaw a lot and you have to watch for nails and fill holes, but most of your wood will be free.
